Discover the Beauty of Turkey

Why Travel to Turkey Now?
If you’ve been considering a yoga retreat in Turkey this year but feel hesitant due to ongoing events in the Middle East, please don’t be deterred, there are many good reasons to feel confident about travelling here.
A Personal Connection to the Country
Huzur Vadisi Yoga Retreats have been welcoming guests for over 30 years. My brother Ian and I, two of the founders, were raised in Istanbul, so our connection to and understanding of the country runs deep.
Is It Safe to Visit Turkey?
While Turkey is sometimes grouped with the Middle East geographically, it is culturally, politically, and ethnically distinct from countries such as Iran and its Arab neighbours. In fact, Tehran is farther from our retreat locations than London is. Current travel guidance does not advise against visiting Turkey, except for areas near the Syrian border, which are over 1,000 km away from our peaceful venues in western Turkey.
I have just spent a month here surrounded by the usual tranquillity and natural beauty with complete peace of mind. During my stay, I also visited Konya, one of Turkey’s more conservative cities, to see Rumi’s mausoleum and attend a Mevlana dervish ceremony. As always, I was met with warmth, kindness, and genuine hospitality.
Experiencing Turkish Culture and Hospitality
Many of our guests return year after year, drawn back by their love for both Turkey and our retreats. For those visiting for the first time, a common reaction upon arrival is surprise at just how stunning the country is. Turkey offers lush green mountains, forests, pristine beaches, and protected nature reserves.
Life at the Lagoon Retreat
Our Lagoon Retreat, which will host three YOAS retreats this year, is located just 3 km from the protected İztuzu Beach, where Caretta turtles return annually to nest. The retreat also overlooks the tranquil Sülüngür Lagoon, home to a rich variety of wildlife and birdlife. A private lagoon beach, just a ten-minute walk through the forest, is a particular favourite among guests. Visitors are equally charmed by the warmth and friendliness of the Turkish people, including our wonderful staff.
A Memorable Day on the Dalyan River
One of the highlights of the retreat is a memorable boat trip along the Dalyan River estuary. The journey winds through tall reeds toward the sea, with a stop at the ancient ruins of Caunos for those interested in history. The day ends with a relaxing visit to the hot springs and mud baths at Köyceğiz Lake. The boat is fully equipped with sunbeds, shaded seating, changing cabins, and onboard facilities, and a delicious lunch is served during the trip, an experience not to be missed.
Reconnect Through Yoga and Nature
Surrounded by forest, with sweeping views across the lagoon and coastline, the retreat offers the perfect setting for yoga practice and personal reconnection. Practising in the fresh air and sunshine, the sense of vitality and energy, prana is truly tangible.
Join Us This Summer
We are delighted to be hosting three special YOAS retreats at the Lagoon Retreat this year: from 20–27 June with Lisa Powell, 18–25 July with Ceri Lee, and 5-12 September with Catherine Annis.
