Many of you will know that we have a very close connection to the Banyan Tree Retreat in Goa and have been running retreats with Annu and Chinu, the owners, since they opened in 2017. Many YOAS retreats have taken place in this beautiful eco, authentic and friendly setting and we are deeply saddened that the retreat centre has had to close due to issues with land ownership linked to the pandemic.
Annu and Chinu are doing all they can to find an alternative location but this is going to take time and they have many challenges ahead. So we would like to do all we can to support them and we were sure many of you would like to be involved too.
We felt that a yoga and Indian supper fundraising workshop could be a positive way for us all to come together and support the Banyan Tree so they are able to find a new location to recreate this beautiful retreat and thrive once more.
The workshop will begin with a late afternoon yoga class with Jess Horn who has a deep connection with the Banyan Tree after leading many retreats there. This will be followed by an inspiring supper cookery class to make a delicious Goan curry with retreat chef, Ceri Jones. All funds raised will be donated to the Banyan Tree Retreat.
The workshop will run as outlined below (on UK time):
4.15 – 5.45pm - A nourishing afternoon practise with Jess Horn
6 - 7.15pm - A delicious Goan curry cookalong with Ceri Jones
4.15 – 5.45pm - A nourishing afternoon practice with Jess Horn
Jess will lead a 90 minute slow flow practice, starting with some pranayama and ending with a chant and meditation to welcome in more healing energy for everyone at this time. We will explore how all of our actions, thoughts and deeds, no matter how small can have a ripple effect across the world and how connected we all are.
'The Banyan Tree is a place very dear to my heart and although the physical place is no more, it was always the people and their warmth that brought the magic. I am delighted to be part of this event to help raise funds to help the boys with their new retreat, wherever it is, it will be wonderful.' Jess
6 - 7.15pm - A delicious Goan curry cookalong with Ceri Jones
Join retreat chef and experienced cookery teacher Ceri for a hands on dinner cookery class inspired by Goan cuisine. Ceri will take you through her menu step by step, offering tips from knife skills to plating up with style. You will be left with a delicious supper and full confidence to recreate the recipe in your own time. The vegetarian menu will include a Goan-style curry, inspired by Goan cuisine and flavours but using British seasonal produce.
