About West Lexham

West Lexham is a thriving country manor estate that has been transformed by the Colville family to bring it back into local community life. It is a unique blend of elegant country manor estate with a wonderfully bohemian vibe, set in beautiful gardens, woodland and only 30 minutes drive from the sea.

The estate offers an idyllic natural environment with an eclectic range of accommodation from peaceful, modern en-suite rooms to cosy cottages. The heritage barn has been stunningly converted and provides an airy, bright space with underfloor heating, perfect for yoga and entertaining. The second yoga space is nearby in the charming village hall which has recently been refurbished and offers another beautiful space to practice with underfloor heating.

The daily programme

This retreat will be an opportunity for you to be in company with old friends or making new. Or if you prefer it will offer the chance to have some quiet time, space and reflection. Your choice, alongside a morning and evening programme of yoga, pranayama, meditation and much fun and celebration.

Between two yoga teachers and two yoga spaces there will be a group of around 40 yogis to share this celebration. Each morning there will be a yoga class followed by a delicious breakfast with free time and lunch to follow. We will then meet again in the afternoon for another yoga practice. For each practice you will be able to choose between a more challenging dynamic practice or something more gentle and restorative, as you feel.

There will be a delicious celebratory dinner on New Year's Eve, a bonfire and celebrations.

Between classes there will be time for walks, trips to the beach, massage treatments or the space and time to simply hang out with a good book or chat and make new friends by the fireside. We will be one big family creating a new year to remember.

Accommodation at West Lexham

West Lexham offers unique, beautiful and very comfortable accommodation with a mix of twin and double rooms, dorm spaces and amazing tree-houses.

There are luxurious en-suite rooms set around a courtyard adjacent to the yoga barn. All have underfloor heating and huge windows which flood the rooms with natural light. They combine rustic charm with funky modern twists.

Charming and cosy traditional flint cottages are also part of the Estate. All cottage rooms have been refurbished in the last year and offer luxury chic interiors with twin or double bedrooms, most are en-suite and 2 rooms share a bathroom.

We have an additional charming cottage with a 4 person mini dorm as an affordable option. We also have stunning fully heated tree-houses, one as a 6 person dorm and another suitable for 2 friends or a couple.

Client Reviews

Will is an incredible yoga teacher, but I knew that already from attending his classes in London. He created a warm and inclusive atmosphere; the perfect environment for a yoga retreat. Will alternated between dynamic, upbeat classes in the morning to more restorative, yin-style classes in the evening which was the perfect combination. I came away feeling completely relaxed, revived and with a deeper understanding of yoga.

I'd just like to say what a fabulous experience the New Year retreat at West Lexham was. It was brilliantly organised, the location was excellent, and the facilities were really good...the chanting, music and meditation practices were the perfect way to enter the New Year. The food was fantastic, the company was great, and the New Year's Eve bonfire was a great way to welcome in the New Year. I met loads of lovely new people and it was an all round great experience. Already considering next year... :-) Thank you so much, namaste.
Kevin
The new year's retreat was fantastic, thank you - the food was outstanding, the people were great, the yoga teaching was top quality and the whole atmosphere was a great way to see in the new year for yogis.
Pete
This was my second New Year retreat in West Lexham. Loved it, lovely people, great food, excellent yoga, relaxing, challenging and inspiring. I just love the place, you feel like you are at home, loved curling up with a book in the hall, watching the fire in the wood burner, and I love the fact that there is under-floor heating in the yoga room in the barn! Can't fault any of it.
Sonia
It was a wonderful retreat, we were blessed with such great weather which was a bonus - along with the fab company, terrific teachers, fun and games, wonderful food and space. We had laughs, dynamic stretching, a heated floor, lots of goodies, time by the fire to read and chat, a country walk, peaceful moments, a brilliant bonfire end to the year and so much more. Thanks to everyone who made it happen. I loved West Lexham Manor and would definitely recommend both that as a venue and Yoga on Shoestring as a company.
Jane
I have only positive things to say about my stay - everything was well-managed, organised and delivered. All aspects in just the right sentiment - professional and warm. The food was amazing. I had a wonderful time and I have been singing the company's praises to all that enquire. A big thank you.
Yvette
This was the perfect start to the new year. Good teachers, great food, and lovely accommodation; all within easy reach of pretty beaches, villages and towns to explore in between classes.
Mandy

Travel Arrangements

West Lexham is situated in Norfolk to the east of Kings Lynn. The nearest town is Swaffham, to the South. It is about 2 hours from London by car and close to rail and coach stops.

Arrival time on 29 December is from 4pm and the first yoga class will be at 5pm. The retreat will finish after brunch on New Year's day. We will put people in touch with each other for lift sharing.

If you are coming by train from London the most direct journey by train is from King's Cross to Downham Market. We recommend you take the 13.11 train from King's Cross arriving at Downham Market at 14.38. From here you could share a taxi with others.
