About Ayurveda Cherai

Laid-back Cherai in Kerala, is renowned for ayurveda, a holistic, natural form of medicine that originated in India thousands of years ago.

Ayurveda Cherai is set in a tranquil location surrounded by tropical palms, with the peaceful backwaters on one side and the warm ocean on the other.

The perfect setting for a 10 day retreat offering nourishing yoga in this idyllic place, alongside a programme of soothing ayurvedic treatments and meals, following an individual consultation with an ayurvedic doctor.

Retreat programme

Join Lara for a Scaravelli inspired yoga and ayurveda retreat at this very special place, with a yoga shala overlooking the peaceful backwaters of Cherai.

The start of the retreat will be marked with a traditional fire ceremony. Each day will begin with a morning class of meditation and asana to gently open the body and attune the mind to the breath. The afternoon class will be a more gentle and restorative practise.

Between classes there will be ayurvedic treatments, time to relax by the pool or walk to the beach. There will be two yoga-free half days when you will have time to take a trip and explore the cultural delights.

Things to do

Each day there will be time to relax by the pool of the neighbouring property just a few steps away, or take a short walk to Cherai beach.

Following your individual consultation with the ayurvedic doctor, each person will have daily ayurvedic supplements and massage treatments, all included as part of the retreat.

There will be two yoga-free half days when you can take a boat trip on the backwaters at sunrise or head out and explore the local cultural sights by tuk tuk, such as Fort Kochi. One evening there will be classical music and dance for you to enjoy.

Shibu and his wonderful team are there to take good care of everyone and arrange a great programme of cultural events to experience the vibrant Keralan culture.

Accommodation & food

There are two types of rooms offered. Cottage rooms with double beds and private patio or heritage style wooden rooms with double or twin beds and a shared terrace. All have en-suite bathrooms. Most have air con, and some have a fan. Two premium heritage rooms are more spacious and have a private balcony.

Delicious, light, and nourishing meals are included. Keralan style vegetarian breakfast, lunch and dinner made with local, fresh ingredients. There will be the opportunity to eat out on 2 evenings.

Client Reviews

I have just returned from this wonderful, warm, caring resort. I cannot speak highly enough about my whole experience there. The perfect location between peaceful backwaters on one side and warm silky ocean on the other, the ayurvedic person centered treatments I received were exceptional, the food was generous, varied and so tasty. We had a wonderful trip to the theatre, a dawn boat trip, and fabulous Indian music. Thank you to Shibu and all the team for all of your kindness and support while we relaxed and soaked it all in.
I had such a wonderful week - Lara was an incredible teacher. I loved my introduction to Scaravelli yoga and her enthusiastic, energetic approach. The classes were long but restorative and holding poses for longer enabled us to release from deep in the fascia...I felt an opening in my hips and shoulders and an awakening of my spine, which was wonderful - even my feet are much more spread and dynamic! The focus on pranayama and meditation was also excellent, as they often get forgotten for the asana and are such a crucial part of the practice.
