About Bonhays

Bonhays is a beautiful eco-retreat centre, nestled in the hills of West Dorset, between Bridport and Lyme Regis and just two miles from the sea. The setting is secluded and peaceful, surrounded by beautiful countryside.

Set around a central courtyard with the soft curves of the straw buildings and the hills beyond, there is quiet and stillness here. Bonhays has lovely communal areas to relax and chat in as well as many peaceful and secluded spots for quiet and reflection. There is also an indoor heated swimming pool.

The coast and beaches are just two miles away if you want to get a dose of sea air and enjoy a beach walk or you may simply want to enjoy a peaceful moment on the decking and watch the sunset, swim peacefully in the pool, share wonderful meals in the conservatory, practice yoga and meditation; be and rejuvenate.

Retreat programme

There will be a yoga class with Raquel on Thursday evening followed by dinner. On the following days there will be two yoga classes, one in the morning and one in the late afternoon, which will include meditation and breathwork. Each night after dinner there will be an activity such as gathering around the bonfire, watching the sunset or candle gazing and yoga nidra.
There will also be plenty of time each day to walk, rest, relax or take a dip in the pool or even the sea. There will be a yoga class on Sunday morning before brunch and goodbyes.

Accommodation & food

Single, shared twin or double rooms are available. Bathrooms, shower and toilet facilities are shared.

There is also a charming shepherd's hut set in a quiet corner looking up the Marshwood Valley and a magical little house tucked away in the woods. The hut and the little house both have a double bed, electricity, a wood burner and are fully insulated. The hut has an outside tap and access to shared bathroom facilities closeby. The little house also has a small kitchen area and its own shower and toilet.

Camping with your own tent or camper van is also an option.

The chef at Bonhays sources local ingredients and produces healthy and delicious vegetarian lunch and dinner. Supplies are provided for breakfast and this is prepared by the group.

Client Reviews

I would like to thank Raquel from the bottom of my heart for her kindness and willingness to share her wisdom. The yoga sessions added a new dimension to my practice, but it was her sensitivity that I benefited from most. The shepherd’s hut was idyllic and provided me with the space I needed. Annie’s food was delicious. I felt truly nurtured by her cooking. Thank you for a much needed break. Raquel was right it wasn’t nearly long enough for me to process everything but it was a good place to start.

I absolutely loved the retreat. Lovely peaceful surroundings, the most delicious food. The days were so well set out with plenty of truly inspiring yoga from Raquel. She is such a knowledgeable and intuitive teacher. I learnt so much from her, not just yoga, also about my body and mind. Finally, we were blessed with a lovely group of yogis which enhanced the weekend even more.

Such a fabulous few days away in the heart of the Dorset countryside at the fantastic Bonhays Retreat with the fabulous, knowledgeable, funny, intelligent, teacher, Raquel. Has has the best way for weaving Yogic philosophy, history with Breathwork and Asanas. We all feel lighter and wiser after an immersive 4 days with her. From Yoga asanas to Mantras, Mudras, and meditation- we were richly spoiled by Raquel. Loved her impromptu yoga workshop too which gave us the chance to experience how poses should really feel. Such a wonderful and intuitive teacher. I look forward a to joining her again. Bonhays was the idyllic setting too. Thank YOAS for this delight.
