About Ayurveda Cherai

Laid-back Cherai in Kerala, is renowned for ayurveda, a holistic, natural form of medicine that originated in India thousands of years ago.

Ayurveda Cherai is set in a tranquil location surrounded by tropical palms, with the peaceful backwaters on one side and the warm ocean on the other.

The perfect setting for a 10 day retreat offering nourishing yoga in this idyllic place, alongside a programme of soothing ayurvedic treatments and meals, following an individual consultation with an ayurvedic doctor.

Retreat programme

Join Lara for a Scaravelli inspired yoga and ayurveda retreat at this very special place, with a yoga shala overlooking the peaceful backwaters of Cherai.

The start of the retreat will be marked with a traditional fire ceremony. Each day will begin with a morning class of meditation and asana to gently open the body and attune the mind to the breath. The afternoon class will be a more gentle and restorative practise.

Between classes there will be ayurvedic treatments, time to relax in the grounds or head to the beach. There will be two yoga-free half days when you will have time to take a trip and explore the cultural delights.

Things to do

Each day there will be time to relax in the grounds or head to Cherai beach, a 20 minute walk or short tuk tuk ride away.

Following your individual consultation with the ayurvedic doctor, each person will have daily ayurvedic supplements and massage treatments, all included as part of the retreat.

There will be two yoga-free half days when you can take a boat trip on the backwaters at sunrise or head out and explore the local cultural sights by tuk tuk, such as Fort Kochi. One evening there will be classical music and dance for you to enjoy.

Shibu and his wonderful team are there to take good care of everyone and arrange a great programme of cultural events to experience the vibrant Keralan culture.

Accommodation & food

There are two types of rooms offered. Cottage rooms with double beds and private patio or heritage style wooden rooms with double or twin beds and a shared terrace. All have en-suite bathrooms. Most have air con, and some have a fan.

Delicious, light, and nourishing meals are included. Keralan style vegetarian breakfast, lunch and dinner made with local, fresh ingredients. There will be the opportunity to eat out on 2 evenings.

Client Reviews

I had the most incredible experience with Lara and Shibu and the group. Lara’s yoga was amazing, she is such an attentive teacher. I also really enjoyed exploring Ayurveda, and Shibu and his team showed us so much kindness, organising all sorts of activities and experiences. It was really special - so much more than I ever imagined! I feel totally rejuvenated and nourished and cannot wait to join Lara’s next Kerala trip!

Here is a gifted teacher who lives a true Yoga life! Lara is a seasoned teacher, greatly skilled in guiding your personal yoga path into a deep, intensely-felt experience. With her guidance, practitioners go beyond habitual asana sequences as they develop somatic awareness, breath work, and play with integrating Scaravellian spinal movements. The 2 hour classes are gentle and expansive, allowing for deep and subtle movements. Astute prop use, prana work and tuning in to the spine are foundational to Lara’s teaching, at once informed, compassionate, and challenging. Throughout the practice are restorative pauses and rests allowing for the integration of each intentional movement. Classes begin with a simple Sanskrit chant, pranayama and meditation and end with a lengthy restorative sivasana supplemented by aromatherapy. Whether a beginner or advanced practitioner, you can expect growth and serenity. in your Becoming.
