About The Jungle Villa

Set in nearly two acres of tropical gardens near Ahangama on Sri Lanka’s beautiful south coast, The Jungle Villa is a peaceful and secluded retreat surrounded by palms and lush greenery. The beaches, cafés and restaurants of the coast are just a short tuk-tuk ride away, while the historic city of Galle is within easy reach.

The villa has a beautiful infinity pool, spacious indoor and outdoor areas to relax and a dedicated covered yoga shala looking out over the gardens. With the whole villa exclusively ours for the week, it’s a wonderfully private setting to slow down and settle into the rhythm of life in southern Sri Lanka.

Retreat programme

There will be two yoga classes with Nancy each day. Each morning will begin with a dynamic flowing yoga practice, opening the body and attuning the mind to the breath.

After the morning session there will be an abundance of fruits and a healthy and filling breakfast. There will be several hours in the day to yourself, where you can head off to one of the nearby sandy beaches, take a treatment with a therapist, a ride to the nearby shops, cafes and restaurants, or simply relax by the pool.

The group will meet again in the late afternoon for a more gentle and restorative practice dedicated to nourishing yourself, including restorative postures, meditation and yoga nidra.

The retreat begins on Monday 1 February with a welcome evening meal. The last class will be on the evening of Sunday 7 February followed by a farewell meal. Five evening meals are included, leaving two nights free for dining out. There's no yoga on travel days and there will be one yoga free day during the week when you can explore or take one of the excursions offered.

Things to do

The Jungle Villa is tucked away in peaceful countryside near Ahangama and surrounded by tropical gardens and nature. For quieter days, it is the perfect place to simply relax by the pool or enjoy a massage or treatment with one of the local therapists.

If you want to head to the beach, it’s just a short tuk-tuk ride to the sea. There are several beaches to choose from, some lively with cafés and restaurants, others quieter and more expansive for swimming, surfing or watching the sun go down. Ahangama itself has a laid-back feel, with plenty of places to stop for coffee or lunch alongside local markets and traditional Sri Lankan life.

For those who want to explore and see more of Sri Lanka, there are plenty of excursions and trips to choose from, including a wild elephant safari in Yala National Park or a sunrise boat trip to see blue whales. Visit a 19th-century tea estate, take a beautiful boat trip to Cinnamon Island, or spend an evening in Galle wandering around its historic fort.

Accommodation & food

The contemporary bedrooms are all en-suite and air-conditioned, with locally made furniture and simple, stylish interiors. Rooms look out over the gardens and surrounding greenery, and daily housekeeping is included.

There is plenty of communal space to relax, both indoors and out, as well as the infinity pool and tropical gardens.

Breakfast and dinner are included each day and will be freshly prepared by the villa’s private chef. Expect nourishing food combining Sri Lankan flavours with Western dishes and making the most of fresh local ingredients. Vegetarian, vegan and other dietary requirements can be catered for with advance notice.

Meals will be enjoyed together in the villa’s open-air dining area, surrounded by the tropical gardens.

Wonderful retreat with the most delicious food. Met such a fun group of people - most returning YOAS clients which says it all. Wouldn’t have changed a thing.
