About Castle Bijaipur

This ten day retreat is thoughtfully divided between two locations with seven nights at Castle Bijaipur and three nights mid retreat at Pangarh Lake resort, allowing you to experience both regal heritage and peaceful nature.

The 16th century Castle Bijaipur stands high on a plateau of the great Vindhyachal range. Having been occupied by kings and queens for centuries, the present Maharaja (a great lover of yoga) has opened the doors of his exquisite castle to the public.

The hospitality is so wonderful you are made to feel like a Maharaja yourself from the moment you arrive. With turrets and terraces and surrounded by villages, wildlife and breathtaking views of the valley, this really is a very special place.

About Lake Pangarh

Midway through the retreat, the group will spend three nights at Pangarh Lake Resort, just a short drive from the castle. This serene lakeside sanctuary is immersed in nature and rich birdlife.

Nestled among gentle hills and the rural landscapes of Rajasthan, the lake creates a peaceful and grounding atmosphere. Here you can begin the day with sunrise yoga by the water, enjoy meditation in the quiet of nature, and take mindful walks through the surrounding countryside.

Retreat programme

The ten day retreat will be split with seven nights at the Castle and three nights mid retreat at Pangarh Lake resort.

There will be two yoga classes each day on the shaded roof terrace of the Castle or in a shaded spot beside the lotus lake.

Each morning will begin with meditation and a flowing asana class to gently open the body and attune the mind to the breath. The afternoon class will be more restorative and often include pranayama, meditation, yin yoga or yoga nidra.

There will be one yoga free day, no yoga on travel days and the classes will be suitable for all levels and experience.

Things to do

Castle Bijaipur offers an opportunity for adventure or complete relaxation - the choice is yours. There are jeep safaris to experience nearby wildlife and bird-life, treks to surrounding villages, temples and wonderful Marwari horses. You can explore the countryside on day trips to the Chittorgarh Fort and there are opportunities for cookery lessons, block printing, and bicycle rides.

There is no shortage of things to do in and around the Castle; even just a stroll into the surrounding village is a feast for the mind, body and soul.

For those who want to take things at a slower pace, days can be spent by the pool or in the beautiful gardens, or taking a massage with a local therapist.

At Pangarh Lake, life moves at a gentler rhythm, inviting you to slow down and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of rural Rajasthan.

Surrounded by rolling hills and open countryside, the lake is a haven for birdlife. Early mornings are perfect for quiet walks along the water’s edge, where you may spot kingfishers, herons, and other local birds.

During the day you can explore the surrounding villages, take a nature walk through the hills, or a boat on the lotus lake. By night you can gaze up at the stars under the vast Rajasthan sky.

Accommodation & food

The Castle rooms are comfortable, clean and charming, offering both the luxury of modern comforts and the elegance of the past. All have en-suite bathrooms. Suites are also available if you would like more space and luxury.

At the lake you will camp in style in luxury tents or rooms with proper beds and bathroom facilities, amidst the stillness and beauty of the Rajasthan countryside.

Delicious traditional Indian meals will be served with many ingredients sourced from the Castle gardens and the local village. On three evenings the group will have dinner at Pangarh Lake.

Client Reviews

Our retreat in Rajasthan was nothing short of extraordinary—an experience that nurtured both body and soul. Amy is a truly exceptional yoga teacher. She guided us with care, ensuring that everyone felt supported both on and off the mat. Castle Bijapur provided the perfect setting for relaxation and renewal. A haven of serenity, the venue’s peaceful ambiance, combined with its stunning surroundings, made it an ideal place to unwind. Our stay at Pangarh Lake Retreat offered another layer of depth and connection, allowing us to further reset in the tranquility of nature. This retreat was a perfect blend of yoga, cultural exploration, and personal growth. I leave with a profound sense of gratitude, cherished memories of new friends, and a deeper connection to both my practice and the world around me.

I absolutely loved this retreat. The castle was magical, such a special location to practice yoga in with its roof overlooking the village and the grounds full of pretty flowers and birds. Then the pool and delicious buffet. But best of all was Amy. She is an angel and has such a holistic method bringing in knowledge, chanting, aromatherapy, meditation and nourishing practices - energising in the mornings and yin in the evening. The perfect mix. I didn't want to leave and would definitely recommend the location and Amy to friends. I would go another retreat with Amy in a heartbeat. Thank you for organising such a gorgeous retreat.

What a beautifully memorable experience at the Rajasthan yoga retreat! The location was stunning; accommodation/ food beyond expectations and other guests couldn't have been better. The right mix of yoga, day trips and own time. For two young professionals who were taking a break between jobs it, was just the recuperation and travel which was required. Thoroughly recommend and bring on the next trip! P.S. get to the village to do a chai crawl and remember your binoculars for a fantastic early morning bird watching amble.
