Holiday ExpiredCombining yoga and snow sports is a wonderful formula that embraces the serenity of the mountains and the passion of the pistes.
This ancient sleepy village is perched on the edge of the mountain over looking the Oisan ranges. Here, time can be seen in the twists of the old timbers that support the tumbling tiles and the firewood and the snow pile high beside the cowshed door. Outside we embrace the clarity of snow, ice and powder, whilst inside our stone and wooden chalet there are cosy nooks to nestle beside log fires and congenial spaces lit by candles, warm smiles and the tall tales of mountain adventure.
Quiet and beautiful Villard Reculas is just one fast modern ski-lift from the heart of the Alpe D’Huez, a world class ski area with over 250km of slopes.
Daily programme
Our yoga is practiced in a warm hall space overlooking the mountains and facing the rising sun. Morning practices will offer meditation, pranayama and a flowing hatha flow asana class whilst our evening sessions will be restorative in flavour to serve as a gentle balm for tired muscles after a day on the slopes. There will be five morning classes and three evening classes during our week together.
After a hearty breakfast each day guests can potter along to ski school or make their way into the resort for the day. There are three full mornings of ski orientation for intermediate skiers who wish to get to know the area. Tea and cake are set out to welcome home hungry skiers each afternoon before either yoga, a massage, a sauna or just a quiet chill out.
Things to do
In addition to your skiing, snow-boarding and yoga, Villard Reculas and Alpe D’Huez offers snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, dog sledding, paragliding and snow-kiting. There are extensive sports facilities in town with even an outdoor swimming pool steaming in the snow drifts. A six-day lift pass also gives you access to Les Deux Alpes which can be driven to or a helicopter trip can be arranged.
For a more sedate experience there are cultural information tours around the village and ice caves that can be explored. For those who enjoy some après-ski, the Folie Douce provides a really amazing, intense ambiance that is a combination of circus, festival and a snowy street-style groove.
Accommodation & food
Our chalet is bespoke, spacious and has boho chic elegance. It is a converted 200 year old traditional Oisans stone barn which faces south with panoramic uninterrupted views of the surrounding mountains.
Snuggle down - cocooned in the warmth of this comfortable homely hideaway - where the bedrooms have their own private bathrooms. A limited amount of single person occupancy is available on this retreat.
Sitting rooms with log fires and libraries offer plenty of cosy corners to rest with a hot chocolate steaming in your hands. There is wifi and massage treatments are available. Eco-friendly, the chalet generates its own hot water on sunny days. It is a five minute walk to the slopes or there is a free navette bus. A hearty vegetarian breakfast is provided each morning and there is a three course vegetarian supper with wine for six of the nights of your stay.
