Holiday ExpiredAbout Castle Bijaipur
Standing high on a plateau of the great Vindhyachal range is the 16th century Castle Bijaipur. Having been occupied by kings and queens for centuries, the present Maharaja (a great lover of yoga) has opened the doors of his exquisite castle to the public.
The hospitality is so wonderful you are made to feel like a Maharaja yourself from the moment you arrive.
With turrets and terraces and surrounded by villages, wildlife and breathtaking views of the valley, this really is a very special place.
Retreat programme
There will be two yoga classes each day on the shaded roof terrace of the Castle.
Each morning will begin with meditation and a flowing asana class to gently open the body and attune the mind to the breath. The afternoon class will be more restorative and often include pranayama, meditation or yoga nidra.
One day will be spent at Pangarh Lake, amidst the stillness and beauty of the Rajasthan countryside. Evening practice and dinner will be taken in a shaded spot beside the lotus lake.
There will be one yoga free day, no yoga on travel days. This will be a small group retreat suitable for all levels and experience.
Things to do
Castle Bijaipur offers an opportunity for adventure or complete relaxation - the choice is yours.
There are jeep safaris to experience nearby wildlife and bird-life, treks to surrounding villages, temples and wonderful Marwari horses. You can explore the countryside on day trips to the Chittorgarh Fort and the stunning city of Udaipur and there are opportunities for cookery lessons, block printing and bicycle rides.
There is no shortage of things to do in and around the Castle; even just a stroll into the surrounding village is a feast for the mind, body and soul.
For those who want to take things at a slower pace, days can be spent by the pool or in the beautiful gardens or taking a massage with a local therapist.
Accommodation & food
The Castle rooms are comfortable, clean and charming, offering both the luxury of modern comforts and the elegance of the past. All have en-suite bathrooms. Suites are also available if you would like more space and luxury.
Delicious traditional Indian meals will be served with many ingredients sourced from the Castle gardens and the local village. One evening the group will have dinner at Pangarh Lake.
