About 42 Acres
Set in 42 acres of private land, this beautiful retreat space is encircled by seven hundred acres of ancient forest. Sustainability and comfort are at the forefront of the 42 acres vision, with reclaimed materials used to outfit the interiors of the property, plus all of the power is renewable and self generated through biomass and solar.
The daily programme
Flowing, traditional hatha yoga sessions will naturally open the heart and nurture you to a space of surrender and stillness. A typical class will include asana (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), hands-on adjustments, guided relaxation, chanting and a taste of philosophy. Typically each class will last for 2 hours.
The retreat will begin on Friday at 5pm. We will gather, enjoy a grounding yoga class, a delicious vegetarian supper and introduction to the sweat lodge and native chants.
Saturday will begin with dawn ceremonies and chanting, followed by yoga. The rest of the day will be spent preparing for the sweat lodge, at dusk we will begin the sweat lodge ceremony after which we will enjoy a healthy feast supper.
On Sunday we will have a dawn ceremony, meditation, chanting and yoga. The retreat will end at 3pm on Sunday.
The sweat lodge
The sweat lodge is an ancient native ceremony which has been used since time immemorial for purification of body, mind and emotions. It helps to reconnect with the earth and to awaken old memories and connection with nature wisdom by using the four elements.
It is considered by native people as the song of the Earth. It has been an element in ceremonies for many different tribal communities all over the world (south America, north America, Europe, Scandinavia, Mongolia to name just a view).
During the lodge ceremony the lodge keeper calls on the wisdom inspired by the 4 direction to guide visualization, chants, prayers, set intentions and reflection for all participants. In a safe and gentle environment you will have the opportunity to leave the old behind and direct energy and intention to the new.
A sweat lodge is a covered round structure made from wood. Stones are heated in a fire and placed in a hole in the middle of the lodge to creative a sweat lodge; a natural sauna.
